Affordable housing
One of the biggest problems across Scotland, and certainly in the Borders and Midlothian, is the lack of affordable housing. Only a few years ago on the road out of Gala it seemed as if every house was up for sale, and prices were an awful lot lower than they are now. Things have changed and it is very difficult for many people to find anywhere they can afford to buy (or rent).
Clearly there are a lot of factors at work here, from limited supply of land for new building work, to a lack of places to rent privately, to population increases (not to mention more of us living on our own). Earlier this week Annabel Goldie launched the “Affordable Homes” manifesto for the Scottish Conservatives, and it’s available to download here.

Derek, why do you have the Cornish flag in your header?
